Deep Plane and SMAS: what they mean

A technique should not be chosen by its label alone. Anatomy, indication and execution matter.

The SMAS is a superficial fibromuscular structure involved in different facelift techniques. There are multiple ways to work with it: naming it does not describe the entire operation.

Deep Plane refers to approaches that work in deeper planes, releasing and repositioning tissues according to the technique. Extent and strategy vary between patients and procedures.

I do not present one technique as universally superior for every face. The useful questions are what your face needs, why I propose that approach and what recovery and risks it involves.

Mini Deep Lifting® is part of my practice, but I do not try to make every patient a candidate for one technique. Diagnosis and goals first; the tool follows.
