Surgical complications
Talking about complications is part of caring for you.
No operation is without risk. I want you to decide with clear information about what can happen, how we work to prevent it and how we support you if a problem arises.

01
Haematoma
A collection of blood can develop early after surgery. A significant haematoma may need prompt assessment and drainage; it is different from ordinary bruising.
02
Seroma
Fluid can collect beneath the tissues and may require monitoring and treatment. The examination and its progress determine the next step.
03
Facial nerve, movement and sensation
Temporary weakness can occur, and persistent nerve injury is also a risk. It would not be honest to describe every movement change as temporary. Changes in sensation and asymmetry must be assessed as they evolve.
04
Healing and blood supply
A scar can heal unfavourably even after careful closure. Problems with blood supply and skin loss are also possible. Smoking and other personal factors are considered before surgery.
05
Other risks we discuss
Infection, anaesthetic risks, persistent pain and the possibility of further surgery also belong in the discussion. This page is not an exhaustive list: consent is tailored to your operation and medical history.
06
Prevent, recognise and support
Planning, taking time and working carefully are part of my approach to reducing risks. No technique or preparation eliminates them entirely.
After surgery we provide close follow-up. Operated patients receive the team's emergency contact and individual instructions. If you travel to Mallorca, we plan your stay before you book the journey.
07
When to seek help
Contact the team promptly for rapidly increasing swelling, substantial bleeding, severe pain that does not respond to treatment or a sudden concerning change. For breathing difficulty or a serious emergency, call 112. WhatsApp does not replace emergency care.
